Liminal Space
by Andrew Bainbridge

‘Liminal Space’ is an artefact born out of the one hour solo experience. During my solitary hour, I began to make conscious connections between my surroundings and thoughts. I often see a hiking or mountaineering experience as a journey, much like the philosophical idea of liminality. The poem contained within the piece uses a day I experienced in the Scottish Highlands with particularly poor visibility, as a metaphor for describing my thoughts at the time about finding direction in life.
“The growing interest in more contact with nature relies too much on only experiencing it visually. We need to deepen the forms of interaction with nature and make it more immersive”.
Peter H Kahn, 2020
